Hello wonderful Women In Tourism Members,

We miss seeing all of your smiling faces at our monthly breakfasts and networking events, but we are so excited for the day that we can once again bring our community together for some top-notch tourism advice, delicious food and endless mingling.

The WIT committee has been working behind the scenes to bring you some exciting new content, as we want you to feel connected and informed during this time. So keep an eye out on our Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages for more news to come!

In the meantime, we wanted to highlight a few of our amazing members that are still in action in one-way or another.  As we all know, the effects of COVID-19 have been especially detrimental to tourism operators; however, it’s been incredible to see the resilience and creativity emerging from you, our members, during this time.

Here are just a few of our members doing great things during this time:

The Lego Store at Dreamworld

What better way to keep the kids (or yourself) occupied during iso’ than to play with Lego? Reignite your love for the tiny colored bricks at none other than Dreamworld! Whilst the park itself is in temporary hibernation, the Lego store is open and thriving.

Each day from 10am-4pm, you can select from a huge variety of Lego builds including Disney’s Moana, Star Wars, Minions and more!

The friendly Lego store team have put in place social distancing measures to ensure you have a safe and stress-free shopping experience, however, phone orders are also welcome and your items can be brought to your vehicle once you arrive.

Check out Dreamworld’s Facebook page for more info on the Lego store as well as tiger updates and free coloring in templates for the kiddies – cute!

Fixx Café at QT Gold Coast

If you live in the Surfers Paradise area, why not visit the quirky QT Gold Coast for your morning caffeine hit?

Fixx Café, on the ground level of the hotel, is open from 6am until 10pm daily for all of your takeaway needs; espresso coffee of course, fresh smoothies, breakfast items to go, salads, sandwiches and more!

We recommend you treat yourself to their famous quesadilla – a grilled flour tortilla with cheese, spring onion, charred corn salsa, pico de gallo and your choice of vegetarian, chilli con carne or pulled chicken (drool).

With the government’s recent update on ‘dining in’, Fixx Café are also allowing guests to sit in and enjoy their meals (with a maximum of 10 people at a time). Otherwise, QT is only a short 2-minute walk from the beach so you can treat yourself to breakfast, lunch or coffee with a view!

Fixx Café’s takeaway menu is available here for your viewing pleasure.

TAFE Queensland

Why just isolate when you can isolearn? We love this! Our friends at TAFE Queensland are absolutely killing it with this whole ‘at home education’ thing. They are offering free micro-credential and skill set courses for individuals who are looking to gain a new skill or learn more about a particular topic.

Some of the courses include Cyber Security Essentials, Communication Technologies and Mentoring and Supervision, to name a few. These particular courses are completely free and delivered 100% online.

So whether you want a new skill to add to your resume or you’re exploring new career opportunities, there could be something here for you.

Jump on to the TAFE website to see if there’s anything that tickles your fancy.

Currumbin RSL

Missing live music? We know we are. Thankfully, the clever cookies at Currumbin RSL are doing something about it!

‘Home Deck Sessions’ is the club’s newest initiative ensuring that we can still get our live music fix from the comfort of our own homes. Every Friday and Sunday from 5pm-6pm you’ll find a range of local musicians performing from the deck and live streaming it to Facebook.

You could be sitting at home solo with a glass of wine taking it all in or watching with your family or roomies. Either way, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it and you might even discover your new favorite local artist!

Gig guide viewable here.

Gold Coast Business Hub

Located in the heart of Southport is the Gold Coast Business Hub; where you can get your work done in a clean, quiet space free from distraction. With social distance approved work areas and health and safety measures in place, the GC Business Hub is an ideal place for those who need to get that work project done or study without home temptations (the added bonus might be that you get some time away from the kids or your partner but we didn’t say that).

To have a look at the available options, check out their website.

As you can see, some of our members are doing great things and we’re sure you are too! Please feel free to tag us in your social media posts or email us with what you’ve been up to at info@womenintourism.org.au.

There’s many ways we can support each other through all of this, not just monetarily but also by sharing and talking about the great work that our peers are doing.

So let’s spread the love by getting online, sharing posts, liking, and commenting and together we will come out the other side stronger than ever!
